As a young man, he began his military career at the age of 16 during World War II. He served as an Army paratrooper assigned to the 11 th Airborne Division and was deployed to the Pacific Theatre. After serving in the Army he joined the U. S. Air Force and retired from active duty in 1974. His service was highlighted by oversees tours of duty in the Saigon area and Pleiku during the Vietnam conflict, as well as assignments in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Panama, and across the United States.

After his service in the military he lived a full life and always enjoyed a challenge. He attended Florida Southern College and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and graduated with honors. After college, he started a second career teaching math at Valencia Community College and Meadowbrook Junior High School. The fall of each year brought his favorite past time the Miami Dolphins and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a great story teller and shared many stories from his life. He loved playing cards, poker, and golf. The challenge of playing sudoku and learning new technology was still a favorite in his later years. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. His love and devotion to his wife, four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be his greatest legacy. He was a hero not only in his military service but to his family.
