Carl Curtis Duke, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 26,2017. He went peacefully at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida.
Carl, affectionately known as "Pop" by so many, grew up in Miami, Florida. He served in the Army in active combat during the Korean War. He married Virginia Duke in 1950, and the couple recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Carl Duke's career spanned 38 years with Nabisco. He was lovingly referred to as "the cookie man" by many. His career took him from Miami, to Tampa and Birmingham Alabama.
Carl and Virginia relocated 19 years ago to Clermont, where Carl became active in church and volunteering in the community. He gave his energy and time to the Special Olympics and the National Training Center, making a difference in his community. He was also known as "Coach Pop" with his grandsons' sports teams. He loved spending time with young people.
While in Clermont, Carl was co-founder of the local Korean War Veterans.
Survivors are his wife, Virginia, son, Dr. Jeff Duke and daughter-in law, Dana, as well as four grandsons: Bo, Cameron, Matthew, and Mark. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Clermont. He will be laid to rest with honors at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at 8701 Maitland Summit Blvd., Orlando, Fl. 32810 Attn: Gillian Wilson. Contributions will be used for ministry to youth in South Lake County.
