Calvin C. Scharr, 92, of Clermont, Florida, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Mike Conley Hospice House. Calvin was born on September 20, 1925, in Westwood, New Jersey, son of William and Marie (nee Scheer) Scharr. He had resided in Clermont for the past 18 years.
Calvin was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served on LST 137 in the European Theater. Upon his discharge from the Navy, and because of his love of animals, was the owner of Holiday Hill Kennels in Oakdale, New York, raising collies and miniature poodles. He moved to Florida in 1960; and before moving to Central Florida, he lived in Boca Raton, Florida, where he was the owner of Boca Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement in 1980.
Calvin is survived by his daughter, Terrie Scharr of Clermont; his niece and nephew, Joan and Louis Martin of Holtsville, New York; his great niece, Jennifer Schlitz and great-great nephew Spencer Schlitz of Patchogue, New York; his great niece and nephew, Lori and Craig Martin and great-great niece Elsie Madeline Martin of Manorville, New York; his niece and nephew, Karen and Jack Martin of Margate, Florida; his great niece and nephew Kimberly and Charles Rothrock and great-great niece Arianna Rothrock of Lexington, South Carolina; great niece, Stephanie Martin of and great-great niece and nephew, Juliane and Keegan Coggio of Greenacres, Florida; and niece and nephew, Barbara and Robert Papes of Riviera Beach, Florida. Calvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary, of 62 years, in 2008.
Calvin attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Calvin's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
