Obituary

Price, Bruce Robert, of Clermont, FL. passed away Sunday, October 23rd, 2011, he was 93 years old. Born March 30th, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was predeceased by his parents, John Robert and Hazel Young, sister, Norma, and brother, Glenn. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Shifflette Price, three sons, Gregory Robert and wife, Mary of Ocoee, Geoffrey Wayne of Mineral Bluff, GA, and Roderick Bruce of Orlando, three granddaughters, Natalie Nicole of Sanford, Elizabeth Ann of Ocoee, and Chelsea Victoria of Tallahassee. Bruce was editor of the Lincoln High School newspaper in Cleveland. In 1941, he enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served with distinction in the Pacific Theater during WWII, earning several medals. Sergeant Price commanded a maintenance crew that kept the B-24 "Liberators" flying while stationed in the Philippines. Following the war in 1946, Bruce studied law at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, where he met the love of his life, Margaret. In 1952, with two young sons, he moved to Aiken, SC to accept a machinist position with Savannah River Laboratories. Bruce was a lifelong baseball enthusiast and coached all three sons in little league baseball, winning several championships. In 1973, after living seven years in Decatur, GA, Bruce realized a personal dream and moved his family to Florida. He worked for the Florida Turnpike Authority in Clermont for ten years before retiring and turning his efforts towards writing. In 1999, Bruce published his first book, The Virginia Cavaliers - The Saga of William Hampton. At the age of 91, he finished his second book, My Grandmother Confederate Spy - The Beth Hampton Story. A compassionate man, Bruce contributed to many charities over the years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was elected Post Commander of the Clermont branch. Bruce was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clermont.



A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, October 27th, 2011 from 6:00-7:00PM at Becker Funeral Home on Minneola Avenue in Clermont.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, relatives have asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project: Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville FL, 32256.
