Bethany Muldoon Bombardo
May 1, 1946 – May 22, 2023
Bethany Ann Muldoon ("Beth") Bombardo lost her long, courageous battle with carcinoid cancer on May 22, 2023. After an initial diagnosis and surgery for brain cancer in 2007, Beth began a 16-year battle that found her bravely enduring every possible treatment, from further surgery to monthly shots to a brand new nuclear medicine procedure, Lutathera, administered by the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. Beth endured this long, painful journey without complaint and with an unwavering devotion to her personal faith and belief in prayer.
Beth was born at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, on May 1, 1946 to parents Bernard Richard Muldoon and Gladys Louise Montgomery Muldoon (affectionately known as 'Monti.'). With a father who was an Air Force Colonel and fighter pilot, Beth lived with her family around the world and across the US. Her education included boarding school in Switzerland and USAF bases in Italy and Germany (where Priscilla Presley was a classmate while she dated Elvis). Four years in Venezuela taught Beth some hard lessons about sunburns! From their time in the US, Beth retained happy memories of Logansport, IN where she enjoyed going out for chilled mugs of root beer and helping the restaurant proprietor cook hot dogs. Nightly after-dinner family car rides included ice cream treats. Her family went on to live in California, Myrtle Beach, SC, and Montgomery, AL. Beth completed her high school years at Marymount near Washington, DC.; she lovingly remembered the Sisters who taught her there. Beth grew up as a devout Catholic and remained dedicated to the Lord her entire life.
Having struggled with schoolwork growing up, Beth was thrilled to be accepted to Syracuse University, where she began a lasting friendship with sorority sister, Virginia 'Ginnie' Russo, of Syracuse, NY. She also met her former husband Pat J Bombardo, Jr. at that time. In the course of their marriage and the births of son, Rick and daughter, Erin, they moved from Syracuse to Rochester, NY, then Reading, PA, where she developed another longtime friendship with Carol Sheppard. From there, Beth and family went on to live in New Jersey and Connecticut before returning to Syracuse.
Beth fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming an interior designer when she was hired by Ethan Allen. Out of her intuitive design skills and care to meet the clients' needs and preferences, Beth made many 30+ year friendships with her clients. She won the "Circle of Excellence" award and was named "Rookie of the Year" for her sales results, allowing her to go to corporate events and spend time with the CEO of Ethan Allen. After first working in Syracuse, Ethan Allen relocated her to the Seattle area enabling Beth to live near her daughter. Beth and Erin later moved back east and built a home together in Clermont, FL.
Travel was clearly a prevailing theme of Beth's life. She enjoyed annual overseas trips with her daughter, enabling Erin to reach her goal of visiting all seven continents by the time she was 30. Closer to home, Beth took pride in seeing her son graduate from SUNY Albany and Georgetown Law School. Helping Rick decorate his law offices over the years was a particular joy, exceeded by her joy at the arrival of Rick's son and her only grandchild, Austin. Rick and Austin visited Beth often through the years in her Seattle home and more recently in Florida. Beth was cheered and comforted by the presence of her son, daughter and grandson during her final days.
Predeceased by her parents and grandparents; Beth always remembered her maternal grandmother 'Nanny' Gladys Louise Montgomery as a great one for sharing 'secrets' and grandfather Jesse Montgomery for his sense of humor. Throughout her life, Beth enjoyed several beloved pets: Dubbie and Kiltie as a child and then Samson, Princess and Devon as an adult.
Beth is survived by son Richard James ("Rick") Bombardo, of Warners, NY, daughter Erin Marie Bombardo of Clermont, FL, and grandson Austin Mason Bombardo. Additional surviving family members include niece Lindsay Bombardo Soulier-Case (Jeff) of Bridgeport, NY and her children CJ and Daniele Soulier, Aiden and Addison Case; cousins Diane Bombardieri O'Hara/(Kevin) and their sons Danny and Ryan of Hendersonville, TN ; Sandy Bombardieri of Hendersonville, TN, Lori Bombardieri Humphres (Jim) of Ft Myers, FL, Michael Bombardieri (Rachel) of Hendersonville, TN; Robert 'Buzz' Floyd (Lori),of Cicero, NY and their children Ryan and Lauren.
