February 22, 1933 – October 8, 2025
Arthur ("Bud") John James Jr. was born on the 22nd of February 1933 in Covington VA. He started going to bible study at age 7 and stayed faithful to his Lord his whole life. He served as a Sunday school teacher, soloist and Presbyterian Elder. He served in the Army and then went on to serve in the US National Security Agency (NSA) until he retired in 1991 as a GS-15, equivalent to a full bird colonel . (The Lord spoke to Moses, saying "Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel". Numbers 13 1-2 Thus begins the first spy mission in the Bible.) His work took him all over the world visiting many military destinations. During his career Bud was stationed in Turkey for three years, Korea for three years and lastly one year in Vietnam.
After retirement from NSA, Bud moved from his homestead in Woodbine Maryland to Clermont Florida to spend more time with family. He worked several years as a registered financial advisor and became the Director of "Church Without Walls", an organization dedicated to helping children in the Juvenile Detention Center in Ocala. He loved to sing, share financial advice, share stories and share the gospel with everyone.
Bud was married to Ila Nelle ("Nelle") Hedrick for almost 54 years until she passed away in 2010 and was blessed with the birth of three sons through this marriage. He later married Judy James in 2011.
Surviving is his wife Judy James, children David James and wife Linda of Clermont, FL and Douglas James and wife Priya of Bloomfield New Jersey; three grandsons Benjamin James (Amelia), Westley James (Holly), Sidharth James and three great grandchildren (Kenzie James, Kaladin James, Oliver James). He is pre-deceased by his wife Ila Nelle James, son Daniel James, mother Nellie Austin Powell, Father Arthur John James, and sisters Dorothy Shelby and Audrey James.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, November 8th at New Life Presbyterian Church in Minneola Florida.
