Obituary

Surrounded by his wife and family, Arthur "Art" Lee Culberson, 86, passed away on Thursday, November 5th in Clermont, Florida. Art was born on December 14, 1939, in Goodwater, Alabama. After graduating in 1958 from Millerville High School in Millerville, Alabama, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for 28 years. While stationed in Scotland, Art came home to Alabama and married Norma Jeanette "Jean" Browning on June 9, 1963. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1985 as a Lieutenant Commander and went to work with Boeing at NASA as a Payload Specialist/Safety Engineer for the Space Station. He was a member of and served many positions in Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite and the Lions Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, tinkering in his shop, learning new technologies, keeping up with car trends, and expanding his knowledge of science. He could often be found riding his lawnmower, making spicy food, playing chess with his kids or grandkids, and watching Sci-Fi movies and shows.

His Christian heart showed through, and he would often lend a helping hand to neighbors or fellow church members and served on many church boards. He came to faith as a young boy while attending Guthrie's Chapel in Millerville, Alabama. He was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of Tavares United Methodist Church in Tavares, Florida.

Art was predeceased by his parents: Durward Oneal Culberson and Vida Lavin Guthrie Culberson and his brother Willie Paul Culberson, all of Clay County, Alabama. He is survived by his wife Jean Culberson of Clermont, Florida and two daughters, Veronica "Roni" Edenfield (Talbert) and Carissa Latham (Mike). His grandchildren: Aaron Fowler (Vince Bruyere), Andrew Latham (Paulina), Amelia Senecal (Jordan) and Samantha Latham; and two great-grandchildren: Hudson and Georgia.

In honor of his life, the family will be having a private grave-side service at Florida National Veteran's Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Shriner's Children's Hospital (donate.shrinerschildrens.org) or Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) in his honor.
