Amado Alcalde Bernardo, born on March 12, 1944, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023 at the Mike Conley House in Clermont, FL. Born and raised in Parian, Calamba Laguna Philippines, Amado graduated from MIT (the Mapua Institute of Technology) with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. It was during that time that he met his wife, Eliodora. At this time, the United States was recruiting engineers. Amado was selected to be part of the program and moved to the Chicagoland area in 1972; his wife, Eliodora, joined him in 1973. He gained his US Citizenship in 1980 and held several Chemical Engineering positions with various companies in the Chicagoland area before retiring to Florida in 2011.
Amado was the ultimate sports fan and girl dad. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He was thrilled to finally see his Cubs win the World Series in 2016. His passions included bowling, fishing, and bingo. Known for his huge smile, incredible heart and infamous dad jokes, you could always count on Amado to make you laugh.
He is survived by his wife Eliodora, his daugthers Leslie LaForty (Stephen) and Alma Wood; his granddaughter Mia, and step grandsons Zayne LaForty and Xavier LaForty; sisters Evy Villar, Fe Bantados (Efren), Lilia Bantados (Nanding), Lorena Ignacio (Rudy), Evie Villar and brother Bill Bernardo; a multitude of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Delphin Bernardo and Dionisia Alcalde; his brothers Leonardo Bernardo, Joey Bernardo and Sister Fely Lirio.
A visitation will be held at Becker Funeral home on Wednesday January 3, 2024 from 4pm - 7pm. A funeral mass will follow on January 4, 2024 at 10am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church
