Alton "Rube" Morehouse

May 18, 1933-August 15, 2021

Alton "Rube" Morehouse passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021.  Rube was born on May 18, 1933 in Penn Yan, New York to Alton and Elsie Morehouse.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Molly, brother Dan and Ruth his wife of 62 years.

In December of 1951, Rube enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  Boot Camp was in Parris Island, SC then served at Camp Lejeune, NC.  From there he went to Camp Pendleton in CA for cold weather training.  Rube arrived at Incheon Korea in December of 1952.  He served with the Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Division in the area known as the Jamestown Line.  Rube was discharged in December of 1954, then serving in the Marine Reserves for an additional five years.

Rube married Ruth Ann Peisher in 1957.  Wedded life started out in Penn Yan, New York.  They had four children; Anthony Morehouse (Groveland, FL), Bridget Morehouse Conley (Clermont, FL), Bernadette Morehouse McClellan (Melrose, FL) and Lillian Morehouse Welborn (Cape Coral, FL).

Working at Walt Disney World for 27 magical years, Rube retired as a Building Maintenance Supervisor in 1999.  Being a major supporter of giving back to the community, Rube was involved in several organizations.  He spent many years as a volunteer fire fighter with the Penn Yan Fire Department/Hunter Hook and Ladder Company.  Rube was a major player in Clermont High School Boosters.  He served three years as the Commander of the American Legion Post #55, was president of the South Lake County Korean Veterans Association and a member of the Marine Corps League.

Rube is survived by his children; Anthony Morehouse (Groveland, FL), Bridget (Bruce) Morehouse Conley (Clermont, FL), Bernadette (Jerry) Morehouse McClellan (Melrose, FL) and Lillian (James) Morehouse Welborn (Cape Coral, FL); seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; his brothers William (Bertha) Morehouse (Utica, NY) and Michael (Jean) Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY).

A Celebration of Rube's life will be from 10:30 to 11:30 AM Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Becker Funeral Home.  A committal service with military honors being rendered will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, August 26th at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
