IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred Macom
Frederick
March 11, 1924 – February 20, 2019
ALFRED MACOM FREDERICK (AL) of King's Ridge in Clermont, Florida passed peacefully on February 20, 2019 just 3 weeks shy of his 95th birthday.
Born March 11, 1924 in Evanston Illinois, he was the son of Alfred Henry and Allye Macom Frederick. He grew up in Evanston, along with his sister Sue May. Alfred graduated from Evanston High School and the University of Missouri. A World War II veteran, Alfred enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1942 and was called to Basic Training in 1943. After Basic Training he was assigned to the 86th Division, Field Artillery Unit, stationed at Camp McCoy Wisconsin. His unit was deployed to the European Theatre in 1944. Alfred's unit fought for 4 weeks at the Battle of the Bulge and then advanced though Germany until the end of the war. Shortly after being discharged in 1946, Alfred joined the National Guard, retiring in 1966 at the rank of Major.
After meeting in a church social group, Al was married to Virginia Mull from 1956 until her passing in 2005. They raised their 3 children in Clarendon Hills, Illinois where Al umpired softball for many years. It is the Chicago area, that Al had a long and prosperous career in advertising and public relations with Sears, ACME Steel, Singer Controls and eventually, Frederick Communications.
Al enjoyed golf and bird watching. He and his cousin Fred Ward attended baseball games and, while routing for opposing teams, they were like brothers. Known for his bad jokes and witty pranks, Al was passionate about all things Chicago particularly the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
Al will be greatly missed by his wife and golf partner Priscilla Heinig; children Linda Bennett (AJ), Kirk Frederick and Jill Swanson (John); nephews Hap and George May and many, many friends in the King's Ridge Community.
