King
July 16, 1948 – February 6, 2024
Alan W. King (Al), 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb 6, 2024, at Orlando Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born in Queens, NY on July 16, 1948, to William and Eleanor King, Al attended Delaney High School in Cockeysville, MD, where he met the love of his life, Kathy Kralec. They were married on July 18,1970.
Al completed his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University in PA, and received his Master's in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University in NJ. He was a fraternal brother of Sigma Nu and member of the Tau Beta Pi honor society.
Following in his father's footsteps, he started his career with Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ. Through the years, the company went through multiple changes: Bell Labs, CSO, Bellcore and Telecordia. Al's career spanned 31 years with the same company.
Al and Kathy spent many happy summers boating and enjoying time with family on Lake George, NY. They also enjoyed hosting dinner parties at their home in NJ, and traveling with friends to the US national parks, and abroad.
When they retired, they joined many friends, residing in the Kings Ridge community in Clermont, FL. They loved hosting putt-putt events and get-togethers, and golfing. Al was a member of the Hackers golf club. He enjoyed informal dining groups that met weekly to celebrate friendship and dine together at local restaurants.
Al was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Kathy. He is survived by his daughter Vicki King George (Dwight Thrasher), and his son Scott and his wife Allison. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, S. Collin George, Jaden and Avery King. Al and Kathy were also lovingly referred to as "Mom and Dad 2" by the many children whom they opened their home and their hearts to. Al will be missed by friends and family alike.
In true Al and Kathy fashion, they died on the same day 7 years apart.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 10 from 2 to 3 pm with a memorial service to begin around 3 pm at Becker Funeral Home, Clermont, FL
